Wednesday, Feb 25th, 2015:  According to a clash between two groups of Santal and Bangalee people over a disputed land, a Bangalee young man had killed and fifteen others people were injured. In addition, ten indigenous people’s houses were set on fire and more than fifty houses were vandalized and looted from the Santal indigenous people’s village (Cirakota), at Habibpur in Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur on 24th January 2015.

According to our correspondent, the deceased was identified as Shohag, 25 years old Bangalee man. Focusing on the death of the young man, his family members and villagers come to the Santal indigenous people’s village and make attack on them. That time they conducted huge vandalization, set-fire on houses and looted most of the things from the indigenous people’s household. The deceased’s uncle Mahamudol Haque filed a case at Parbatipur Thana with 28 persons by name and including 18 indigenous people unknown as convict.   

On 24th January, early in the morning Johirol Islam & his younger Ziarol along with their gang came to the village and forcefully try to cultivate in a land of 19 Accor which had disputed with the owner Zosef Tudu & his family. It is learnt that Johirol had long been at loggerheads with the  Zosef Tudu family over the ownership of the land. On that day, the indigenous family tries to protest them to stop cultivating in the disputed land. After a while a clash began with them and during the clash the young man; son of Johirol Islam cause death by arrow of indigenous people. As a squeal to the clash, Bangalee people with homemade weapons attacked upon the Santal indigenous people of the Cirakota village.

Regarding this occurrence many indigenous organization including Jatioy Adivasi Porishod express deep concern.
